Since epilepsy and autism are common comorbidities, differential changes in IL-6 and IL-12p40 were found to be associated with electroencephalogram (EEG) findings and suggest that the downregulated expression of IL-6 in combination with the upregulated expression of IL-12p40 may be an element related to the risk of epilepsy comorbidity in children with autism [16]. This evidence concerns the gene IL6 and autism.
