CD68 is a transmembrane protein that participates in oxidized low-density protein (OxLDL) clearance (e.g., lipid-laden foam cells in atherosclerosis) (PrabhuDas et al. 2017) and is considered a pan-macrophage marker (PrabhuDas et al. 2017; Yang et al. 2019; Jeong et al. 2019).
