Although there is no direct evidence that AKT3 protein levels are reduced in patients with schizophrenia, one study showed that the relative phosphorylation of GSK3β at Ser9 (downstream of all AKTs) was significantly lower in lymphocytes and in the frontal cortexes of individuals with schizophrenia compared with controls [20], providing indirect evidence that AKT3 could be reduced in their brains as well.
