VIM and cancer: It is reported that vimentin promotes GC invasion and metastasis through the enhancement of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT)29,30 and the concurrent expression vimentin with other cancer-associated genes was observed in numerous cancers.31 EMT is the first step in the metastasis of the cancer cells and is defined by the loss of cell-cell adhesion and the receiving of migratory ability and merging evidence suggests that EMT serves as an integral component of GC.32
