Adipose-FABP (also known as FABP4) has been reported to be significantly elevated in many AKI models, and inhibition of FABP4 can attenuate endoplasmic reticulum stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, inflammation, and apoptosis and restore kidney function (Huang et al., 2018; Tan et al., 2019; Li et al., 2021b). Here, FABP4 is linked to acute kidney injury.
