The link between psoriasis and atherosclerosis has been proposed as “one syndrome and two plaques” (103, 104) to reflect the similar inflammatory cytokine profiles of the two diseases, including TNF-α, IFN-γ, IL-1, IL-6, IL-8, IL-12, IL-17, IL-20 and IL-23 (105), of which a synergistic effect of IFN-γ and TNF-α on the immunopathogenic mechanism has been noted in comorbid atherosclerosis and psoriasis (97). This evidence concerns the gene IL17A and psoriasis.
