In general, subjects who had poorer dietary quality or the most pro-inflammatory diets were more likely to be male, have lower educational levels and type 2 diabetes, were more likely to be current smokers, reported lower physical activity levels and had higher (lower for adiponectin) concentrations of inflammatory and thrombotic biomarkers than did those who consumed higher quality/less pro-inflammatory diets.
