The established role of LSM1 and DCP5 in RNA decapping and degradation led us to test whether these PB-associated factors were acting on viral RNA during infection, as the seemingly unaltered viral RNA levels in lsm1 and dcp5 mutants (Figure3D) could still be explained by a combination of reduced transcription and a defect in RNA decay. The gene discussed is LSM1; the disease is infection.
