Despite the beneficial effect on T lymphocyte recruitment and necrosis at 14 days, the individual overexpression of IL9 did not significantly change cardiac dimensions or systolic function at 35 days post-infection (Fig. 8A,B, complete echocardiographic analysis in Supplementary Information 2, Table S3), although uninfected controls in both groups showed lower than expected ejection fractions, possibly due to anesthesia levels that also produced lower heart rates than in other experiments. The gene discussed is IL9; the disease is infection.
