PIEZO2 and channelopathy: Corneal somatosensory polymodal nociceptors expressing Piezo2, which can be activated by mechanical stimuli, heat and chemical irritants as well (Fernandez-Trillo et al. 2020), are the prime suspects for the suggested Piezo2 channelopathy because they seem to have the capability for the cross-talk with unmyelinated C sensory fibers.
