Based on cell culture and animal data on SARS-CoV and SARS-CoV-2 infection, and human data of ACE2 levels in conditions with increased susceptibility to severe COVID-19, multiple reviews arrived at the conclusion that Ang II levels should be increased and ACE2 should by downregulated by SARS-CoV-2 infection (Edmonston et al., 2020; Verdecchia et al., 2020; Iwasaki et al., 2021; Triposkiadis et al., 2021). This evidence concerns the gene AGT and COVID-19.
