Hyperinflammation and macrophage activation syndrome (MAS) result in the overproduction of proinflammatory cytokines, such as the IL-1β, IL-6, and TNFα, as well as coagulation abnormalities, which contribute to organ failure and other fatalities (Shinya et al., 2012; Merad and Martin, 2020; Tay et al., 2020).
