MIS is defined by symptoms including fever and elevated inflammatory markers (more than two of the following: elevation of C reactive protein (CRP), erythrocyte sedimentation rate, fibrinogen, procalcitonin test, D-dimer, ferritin, lactate dehydrogenase or IL-6, presence of neutrophilia, lymphopenia, decreased albumin, multiple organ dysfunction, and exclusion of other plausible diagnoses) (Rodríguez et al., 2020; Tenforde and Morris, 2021). This evidence concerns the gene IL6 and lymphopenia.
