PLAT and infection: Another aspect of human immune response to pathogens is the generation of inflammatory glycoproteins such as hydrolases, tissue plasminogen activator, and myeloperoxidase, which can be damaging to host tissues if retained after the infection has been resolved; high-mannose glycans on these glycoproteins provide these conditionally protective factors with quick clearance via cells with MRs, helping to avoid post-infection damage to the host (Lee et al., 2002; Gazi & Martinez-Pomares 2009).
