The biomolecules reviewed are the following: islet amyloid polypeptide (IAPP), which contributes to glycemic control and has implications for Type II diabetes,13,14 Aβ peptide and Tau protein, which are the main components of amyloid deposits found within the neuronal cells of patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD).15,16 α-Synuclein, which is strongly associated with Parkinson's disease (PD).17Table 1 lists select metal ions and their binding sites to the proteins discussed in this review. This evidence concerns the gene IAPP and early-onset autosomal dominant Alzheimer disease.
