Diabetes induced a significant increase in the number of ICAM‐1+ blood vessels/cm2 (controls: 12 ± 1 in the ventricles and 11 ± 2 in the atria; DM group: 23 ± 4 in the ventricles (p = .007) and 22 ± 2 in the atria (p = .02) (Figure 2E). Here, ICAM1 is linked to diabetes mellitus.
