Our study shows that STZ‐induced loss of glycaemic control resulted in an increased presence of markers associated with glycation (CML), oxidative stress (NOX2 and NOX4 [mainly in the brain]) and inflammation (ICAM‐1 and VCAM‐1 [in the heart only]) in the heart and brain microvasculature. Here, VCAM1 is linked to chronic myelogenous leukemia, BCR-ABL1 positive.
