While advances in molecular pathology allow pathologists to have more accurate diagnosis with the ancillary tests e.g. MUC4 stain for low-grade fibromyxoid sarcoma and FUS::DDIT3 fusion transcript for myxoid liposarcoma, not all hospitals have access to these molecular tests, and sometimes the tissue samples in small biopsies may be too scanty for further ancillary tests, so the diagnoses are mainly based on the histomorphology. The gene discussed is DDIT3; the disease is myxoid liposarcoma.
