PFKFB3 and acute respiratory distress syndrome: A recent study showed blocking glycolysis pathway by inhibitor, PFKFB3, 3-(3-pyridinyl)-1-(4-pyridinyl)-2-propen-1-one(3PO), which led to decreased glucose uptake and suppression of glycolytic flux to lactate, was an effective approach to prevent the sepsis-related ALI [24], indicating inhibition of cellular glycolysis is a potential way to treat ALI.
