Early investigations demonstrated that ZEB1, Twist-related protein 1 (Twist1), and Snail Family Transcriptional Repressor 1 (Snail1) downregulation reduces the invasive properties of uveal melanoma cells, whereas elevated mRNA levels of ZEB1 and Twist1 are associated with a more aggressive clinical phenotype in uveal melanoma samples (93). The gene discussed is ZEB1; the disease is uveal melanoma.
