AGT and cardiac hypertrophy: Double-transgenic rats (dTGR) harboring the renin and angiotensinogen genes exhibit an HFpEF phenotype of diastolic dysfunction, preserved EF, systemic hypertension, cardiac hypertrophy, fibrosis, inflammation, and endothelial dysfunction, and dies between 7 and 8 weeks from severe heart failure (Damage et al., 1999; Mervaala et al., 2001; Wellner et al., 2005; Fischer et al., 2008; Finckenberg et al., 2012; Haase et al., 2014).
