Specifically, we focused on expression of genes in the Slc2a glucose transporter family, given association of several genes within this family to embryonic (Slc2a1/Glut1, Wang et al., 2006; Slc2a3/Glut3, Ganguly et al., 2007; Slc2a9/Glut9, Preitner et al., 2009) or pre-weaning (Slc2a2/Glut, Gulliam et al., 1997) lethality and intrauterine growth restriction (Slc2a3/Glut3; and Slc2a4/Glut4, Katz et al., 1995). This evidence concerns the gene SLC2A3 and fetal growth restriction.
