SHANK3 and Intellectual disability: Changes in the phosphorylation state of Shank3 were of particular interest to us since Shank3 is critical for synaptic scaling up (Tatavarty et al., 2020), interacts with many synaptic partners also known to be important for homeostatic plasticity (Gainey et al., 2015; Hu et al., 2010; Shin et al., 2012), and is strongly associated with ASDs and intellectual disability (Betancur and Buxbaum, 2013).
