It has been reported that in the colorectal carcinoma RKO cell line, the levels of ELAVL1 in the cytoplasm increase during the late G1, S, and G2 phases of the cell cycle, and it binds to the 3′-UTR of mRNAs encoding cyclins A and B1, resulting in enhanced stability of these mRNAs and increased expression of the proteins, ultimately leading to increased cell proliferation (Wang et al., 2000).
