NLRP3 and eye infection: Ocular infection of NLRP3-deficient mice led to more-severe and earlier stromal keratitis lesions and had higher angiogenesis scores than did infected wild-type animals, associated with increased early immune response with heightened inflammatory chemokines and cytokines, and elevated recruitment of neutrophils, and increased numbers of CD4+ T cells at later stages of the disease in these Nlrp3–/– animals.
