TNFAIP3 represents a possible inflammatory candidate gene that could influence fertility, as TNFAIP3 regulates inflammation through control of NF-κB which in turn influences many aspects of fertility, and GWAS data link TNFAIP3 SNPs with autoimmune diseases with female bias and associated infertility (i.e. with SLE, RA and MS). This evidence concerns the gene NFKB1 and systemic lupus erythematosus.
