Except for the regulation of lipid- and glucose-metabolism in rodents and humans, FGF21 is involved in the pathogenesis of relevant cardiovascular diseases including atherosclerosis, hypertension, coronary heart disease, myocardial infarction, and other myocardial damage such as diabetic cardiomyopathy, dilated cardiomyopathy, and so on (13, 15, 16, 29, 30). This evidence concerns the gene FGF21 and myocardial infarction.
