Importantly, our data provide the first evidence that NLRP3 knockdown also greatly alleviates the severity of corneal infection and reduces the recruitment of neutrophils to the corneal stroma in C. albicans keratitis, indicating that the NLRP3 inflammasome not only participates in but also plays a proinflammatory role in C. albicans keratitis by triggering pyroptosis in the cornea. This evidence concerns the gene NLRP3 and corneal infection.
