NLRP3 is a critical gene in the NOD-like receptor signaling pathway that contributes to the formation of the NLRP3 inflammasome in immune cells, which could cause CASP1-mediated proteolytic activation of IL1B and IL18, and induces inflammation, and pyroptotic cell death in IBD (Tourkochristou et al., 2019). This evidence concerns the gene CASP1 and inflammatory bowel disease.
