Previous study indicated that both FMOD and BGN play a role in the pathogenesis of POAG, in which BGN participate in the extracellular matrix remodeling and axonal damage in the lamina cribrosa of the optic nerve head in glaucomatous optic neuropathy, and FMOD might be associated with susceptibility to glaucoma damage [52–54]. This evidence concerns the gene FMOD and open-angle glaucoma.
