TRPV1 and Stroke: We also found in previous studies that increasing pharyngeal sensory input in post-stroke dysphagic patients by using TRPV1 (transient receptor potential cation channel subfamily V member 1) stimulants almost doubled SSF, further supporting the role of pharyngeal sensory stimulation in the modulation of SSF and the potential use of SSF as a relevant metric in assessing the pharmacological stimulation of swallow response in PSOD [31].
