The overall results of this study seem to demonstrate that a probiotics-supplemented low protein diet prevents the increase of serum levels of IS, Lp-PLA2 activity, serum total cholesterol and, marginally, of PC, as well as allows the reduction of loop diuretics and antihypertensive agent use, improves quality of life and, finally, delays the progression to end stage renal disease and the need for dialysis. The gene discussed is PLA2G7; the disease is chronic kidney disease.
