As the pathology associated with some of the forms of dementia may be related to the tau protein and other brain proteins (discussed in [80,81,82,83]) and involve specific regions of the brain (i.e., the hippocampus and hypothalamus [81,82,83,84]), the presence of this pathology may be a consequence of the disease initiation but not the initiating cause. This evidence concerns the gene MAPT and dementia.
