Interestingly, the authors of the latter study also proposed an MTC sub-classification termed MEN2B-like and MEN2A-like, although this was assigned a priori based on the RET mutation type (MTCs with RET exon10-11 mutations assigned to the MEN2A-like class, whereas MTCs with RET exon16 M918T mutation assigned to the MEN2B-like class) [32]. The gene discussed is RET; the disease is medullary thyroid gland carcinoma.
