Genes involved in cholesterol homeostasis appeared among the most highly ranked cancer hallmark pathways (Figure 4A) and also in the top five biological processes associated with high ABCA1 expression (namely, regulation of mononuclear cell migration, osteoclast differentiation, B-cell activation involved in immune response, positive regulation of sterol transport and vascular endothelial growth factor receptor signalling pathways; Figure 4B and Figure S3). Here, ABCA1 is linked to cancer.
