ABCA1 and triple-negative breast carcinoma: In triple-negative breast cancer, another gynaecological malignancy that thrives in a cholesterol-rich environment, impairing cholesterol efflux through suppression of the ATP-binding cassette A1 (ABCA1) cholesterol transporter leads to disruption of cholesterol homeostasis and impaired malignant characteristics [21,22], and high expression of ABCA1 is associated with high-grade tumours in this disease [14].
