Based on this study, tomato lines with different combinations of polyphenols (Table 3) have been tested in a mouse model of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), demonstrating that tomato enriched in flavonols, anthocyanins, and stilbenoids (named Bronze) were able to reduce/delay the symptoms as well as the dysbiotic intestinal microbiota associated to dextran sodium sulfate (DSS)-induced colitis, and showed a significantly diminished IL-6 and TNF-α levels. Here, IL6 is linked to inflammatory bowel disease.
