Over the course of 24 hours, expression of the junctional proteins occludin (p<0.0001), E-cadherin (p<0.0001), ZO-1 (p = 0.0058), and β-catenin (p = 0.0139) were all significantly decreased relative to mock-infected cells (Fig 2B and 2C), indicating the observed transcriptional changes during HAstV infection translated to a decrease in junctional protein expression. This evidence concerns the gene TJP1 and infection.
