For decreases in systemic levels of PDGF and VEGF known as growth factors in BA patients and jaundice patients, the possible reason may be attributed to the disrupted balance between hepatic damage and regenerative capacity upon biliary duct injury, which in turn may decrease systemic and local production of growth factors in BA patients, given an important role of growth factors in regulating cellular proliferation and differentiation during liver regeneration following hepatic injury. The gene discussed is VEGFA; the disease is breast angiosarcoma.
