CD57+ T cells comprise a subset of senescent T cells with preservation of potent effector functions, however seeming incapable to inhibit the growth of malignant cells: accumulation of CD8+CD57+ TILs in the peripheral blood was associated to decreased survival in renal cell carcinoma, melanoma, and gastric carcinoma [14, 30–32]. The gene discussed is B3GAT1; the disease is hereditary clear cell renal cell carcinoma.
