The increase in Helicobacter in Pla2g2a−/− mice can explain why mouse strains with a mutated Pla2g2a gene are more susceptible to intestinal tumorigenesis than those having an intact Pla2g2a gene [42] and also accounts for an inverse correlation between PLA2G2A expression and gastric cancer in humans [55].
