This is supported by the association of migraine with sudden sensorineural hearing loss [20] and the observation that migraine as a risk factor for cerebrovascular accidents [21]; (2) sensitisation and activation of the trigeminovascular (TV) system leading to release of the pro-inflammatory neuropeptides substance p and calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP), which has connections with brain areas associated with processing of nociceptive information as well as thalamic and vestibular-associated cortices [22]. This evidence concerns the gene TAC1 and sudden sensorineural hearing loss.
