GRM3 and schizophrenia: Genetic alterations in GRM3 are a replicated risk for schizophrenia in genome-wide association studies (Saini et al., 2017), and the reductions in mGlu3 signaling are associated with inefficient activation of the dorsolateral PFC (dlPFC) activity (Egan et al., 2004; Harrison et al., 2008; Jablensky et al., 2011; Chang et al., 2015; Zink et al., 2020), the brain region needed for working memory, cognitive control, and abstract reasoning (Goldman-Rakic, 1995; Courtney et al., 1998; Szczepanski and Knight, 2014).
