Interestingly, the stroke-induced loss of GRP78+/NeuN+ neurons was significantly reduced in the Nhe1 Astro-KO brains, compared to the wild-type control brains (p = 0.0178) (Fig. 1D, E), indicating less stroke-induced neurodegeneration in Nhe1 Astro-KO brains. This evidence concerns the gene SLC9A1 and stroke disorder.
