An early performed clinical trial (2012) conducted on ten breast cancer patients undergoing radiotherapy demonstrated the potential of EGCG to enhance radiotherapy demonstrated through decreased levels of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), hepatocyte growth factor (HGF), and reduced activation of matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-9 and MMP-2 in patients receiving radiotherapy plus EGCG compared to patients receiving radiotherapy alone. The gene discussed is VEGFA; the disease is breast carcinoma.
