There are in vitro studies that demonstrate how statins attenuate the growth of ER+ breast cancer cell lines (MCF-7) (38–43), as well as the synergistic effect of statins with tamoxifen (44) or exemestane (an aromatase inhibitor) (45) to induce cell apoptosis, through the downregulation of the expression of suvivin proteins (43, 44). This evidence concerns the gene CYP19A1 and breast carcinoma.
