The Mal2 locus displays a stronger genetic effect than Mal1 for fungus infection survival in terms of the p-value of the locus, and Mal2 genotypes also display a high explanatory power for the fungus survival phenotype because presence of the susceptible allele 107 or genotype 107–107 at the Mal2 locus was sufficient to explain ≥ 87% of mosquitoes dying in the first 5 days post-infection. This evidence concerns the gene MAL2 and infection.
