Inhibition of angiotensin II by the angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor captopril has been shown to downregulate expression of the type I IFN regulator Ifr7 (59), so it is possible that the increased angiotensin II sensitivity in NZB/NZW F1 mice causes hypertension mainly via increase in type I IFNs. This evidence concerns the gene ACE and hypertensive disorder.
