The activation of the NLRP3 inflammasome in both acute and chronic CNS disorders including Alzheimer’s disease (AD) (55), Parkinson’s disease (PD) (56), amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) (57), multiple sclerosis (MS) (58), neuropsychiatric diseases such as depression, schizophrenia (59), stroke, traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries (60) has been extensively studied.
