The increased liver weight, including hepatic steatosis, in control ob/ob mice might be explained by associated changes in hepatic levels of mRNA, such as those encoding key enzymes of gluconeogenesis (PEPCK and G6Pase), and expression of lipogenic enzymes (FAS, ACC, SCD), including AMPK and SREBP protein expression, which are important factors for lipid synthesis. This evidence concerns the gene G6PC1 and Hepatic steatosis.
