In the context of ASD, particular attention was devoted to mGlu5, in light of its role as a regulator of both natal and postnatal neurogenesis and synaptogenesis [255,256], as well as in motor and social behaviors that are specifically affected in ASD disorders [236], suggesting that dysregulation of mGlu5 signaling could be involved in the pathogenesis of neurodevelopmental disorders.
