Premature ovarian insufficiency (POI) is a disease defined, according to the guidelines of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE), as the existence of oligo-/amenorrhea with a duration of at least four months and a serum follicle stimulation hormone (FSH) level above 25 IU/L, measured on two separate occasions at least four weeks apart [1].
